Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

Mindfulness takes us beyond coping and making do. It helps us see the world differently. And in effect, we grow, flourish, and live a more compassionate life. By practicing mindfulness, we can have the power to influence our environment impactfully.

So, What Is This Thing Called Mindfulness?

To be mindful simply means to pay attention to what is happening—whether it’s the mind, body, or the immediate environment we are in. To remain present, while both staying curious and compassionate, mindfulness is a state of mind that grounds you to the truth.


All of this may be overwhelming. But mindfulness is not complicated. It leads to greater wellbeing and mental clarity. It can also open doors to an increased ability to care for both yourself and others.

How Does Mindfulness Help?

All of us can benefit from increasing our awareness; and in doing so, being less reactive and judgmental. Here is a simple chant that can help you practice your mindfulness. I invite you to breathe in and breathe out. Mindful breathing helps bring the body and the mind together.
